Ekadashi, the eleventh lunar day of each fortnight, is the most widely kept Hindu fast, twice a month. The fast is broken the next morning in a window called parana. Both the date and the parana time depend on your local sunrise, so they differ between India and the rest of the world.

Smarta and Vaishnava Ekadashi
Most families follow the Smarta rule: fast on the day Ekadashi is in force at sunrise. Vaishnava and ISKCON communities decide at Arunodaya, 96 minutes before sunrise; if the previous tithi (Dashami) is still present then, they fast a day later. When the two differ, the table shows the Vaishnava date too, and the Global Panchang app has a Smarta / Vaishnava switch.
When to break the fast (parana)
Parana is done the morning after Ekadashi, after sunrise and after Hari Vasara (the first quarter of Dwadashi), ideally within the first fifth of the day and always before Dwadashi ends. When Hari Vasara lasts beyond the morning, the parana window starts later; the table then shows "after" that time.
Why India's date can be different
The Ekadashi tithi begins and ends at the same instant everywhere, but sunrise does not. A fast that starts at India's sunrise on one day may already be in force at sunrise in New York the day before, or not until the next. In the Americas and Europe the date is the same as India's or a day earlier; in Southeast Asia and Australia the same or a day later.
